The Kitchen

“Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some people have entertained angels without knowing it.” Hebrews 13:2

It’s transition time for us again! Moving from Cleveland back to Austin and looking for a new place in Austin has kept us nice and busy. Thankfully God has wired me to LOVE change so a new place to call home in Austin is exciting to me. And since I love being in the kitchen…my wheels are already turning of what I can do differently.

While at a family friend's home yesterday (whose kitchen I love), I noticed this verse above from Hebrews 13 written down. While I have read this verse so many times and smiled, this time it hit me differently. In our culture, it is so easy to be “busy” and neglect the chances we have to serve by opening our homes. I felt completely convicted since I am now in the best position I’ve ever been in to show hospitality by having guests visit in our home.

This verse in Romans also came to mind, “When God’s people are in need, be ready to help them. Always be eager to practice hospitality” Romans 12:13. I’m reminded that yes, we are called to serve those in need, but the part that hits me this time is we are also to be EAGER in showing hospitality. I did notice the verse does not end with “show hospitality to only your closest friends and family” like I often find myself doing :).

As Colt and I are in another transition time between cities and houses, my new personal challenge is to actively LOOK for opportunities to be hospitable. We love food and I love to cook, so the KITCHEN will be my daily reminder to have someone over to share in fellowship.

PS...This is what Colt has been up to so far this off-season (stay tuned for more on his recent adventures)
